Vegelin Suite

This work is named after the Vegelin neighborhood in the Dutch city of Leeuwarden, which was built as a working-class neighborhood at the end of the 18th century. Jacob de Haan lived in this neighborhood during his student years, and that time formed the basis of his period in which he flourished as a young composer. He composed this suite years later as a commission for an international accordion festival in the city of Deventer, where he had now settled. The 4-part suite is composed of themes that he composed in his house in the 3rd Vegelin cross street in the Vegelin neighborhood.
