Go with the flow

This work is about the French town of Pont-de-Roide, located at the confluence of the Doubs, Ranceuse and Roide rivers. It musically depicts the flow of these rivers and takes you into the flow of the town’s life and history. Therefore, the title can be taken both literally and metaphorically.

The composition begins festively with sounds of the local concert band celebrating its 100th anniversary. Then the tempo picks up and the musical themes tell of the happiness and enthusiasm of the inhabitants in a flowing, rhythmic movement. The slow, melodic middle section is introduced by the ever-flowing waters of the rivers in the beautiful landscape. A sudden transition to traditional marching music features the horns from Peugeots made in the very first Peugeot factory, located in Pont-de-Roide. After a return to sounds of happiness and enthusiasm, the work closes majestically with powerful signals in the brass.
