Dances & Sonnets
About Dances & Sonnets
Dances & Sonnets is a piece by Jacob de Haan, consisting of poems and Frisian folk dances in Scottish style. Lively instrumental dances alternate with spoken sonnets recited by one or more readers, accompanied by quiet, solemn music that provides contrast. Jacob de Haan: “The combination of both styles, with dance music and declaimed sonnets, makes this a very special work that always appeals to the audience.”
Performance Note
You can choose from sonnets yourself, in any language. You can find them in all possible languages on the web. It is also possible to involve a dance ensemble. And on the other side it is also an option to perform only the parts of the sonnets as separate parts. Jacob de Haan: “I heard a good wind orchestra from Amsterdam do that, it works beautifully.”
