Concerto d'Amore

Concerto d’Amore is regularly performed at the weddings of musicians because of the theme of love. It combines three distinct styles: baroque, pop, and jazz. Baroque is one of Jacob de Haan’s favourite musical styles. Hence it is not a coincidence that the maestoso opening sounds much like a baroque overture. 

The overture is followed by an energetic part in pop style, that ends up in a characteristic adagio. A motive from this adagio is assimilated in a swinging part, after which the work finishes with the return of the adagio in a different appearance.

Jacob de Haan composed Concerto d’Amore specifically for “his very own” music club, Excelsior in Nijland, the Netherlands, which he once conducted from the age of 18. Concerto d’Amore is now his most performed composition worldwide. Jacob de Haan: “It is probably no coincidence that this composition has become so successful. This band was a learning experience for me, in which, in addition to conducting, I also developed composing. It marked the start of my composing career.”

Jacob de Haan made an integral version of the slow middle piece of the composition, named Adagietto.
