Achterberg Liederen

Gerrit Achterberg (1905-1962) was one of the most important Dutch poets of the twentieth century. Jacob de Haan was inspired by three poems and composed the Achterberg songs, for voice and wind orchestra: ‘Standbeeld’, ‘Hoonte’ and ‘Jachtopziener’.

Jacob de Haan wrote this multi-part work on the occasion of the opening of the School for Music, Dance and Theater Education in Neede. Achterberg’s hometown for a number of years.

The three poems are ideal for singing, because of the emotional charge in combination with the rhythmic structure. The atmosphere is clearly reflected in the music.
