Jacob de Haan was born March 28, 1959 in Heerenveen, The Netherlands. He received his musical education at the State Music Academy in Leeuwarden, where he graduated in church organ and school music.

Jacob de Haan mainly works as a composer of wind band and choir music. He is often invited as a guest conductor all over the world to perform his own works and as an adjudicator at international music contests.

The music of Jacob de Haan is distinguished by its emotionally driven power, which appeals to the imagination of musicians and audiences.

Jacob de Haan received several awards, including the BUMA  Classical Music Award for his whole oeuvre as well as the BUMA Wind Music Award for his national and international achievements for wind music.
